While reading a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, The Computer That Could Rule the World by Arthur Herman, I recalled a passage in the book of Daniel, the meaning of which I never understood… until now.
This article began by describing how quantum computers currently under development will outperform existing computers, being thousands of times faster. This additional speed will allow the decryption of encrypted electronic information, which currently takes centuries, to be accomplished almost instantaneously. Thus, the title of the article and why corporations and governments around the world are furiously trying to be the first to successfully develop this capability. According to the article, this will probably be accomplished within a decade.
So how does this tie into this obscure prophetic book in the Bible and prophecy generally?
In Daniel 8:23 it states the following as it relates to the king of bold face, aka the Antichrist:
And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached their limit, a king of bold face, one who understands riddles, shall arise. Dan 8:23 ESV
And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. Dan 8:23 KJV
Other translations include: “skilled in intrigues” and “master of strategy”
With all these differing translations it is clear the translators are struggling with a lack of context to determine the precise meaning. However, in the context of quantum computing as described in the WSJ article, I believe the translation can be more precisely determined.
This passage in Daniel came to mind as I wondered if somehow understanding riddles or understanding dark sentences might refer to the ability to decipher encrypted electronic information and why this particular personality characteristic is significant enough to include in a very minimal description of this person. So, I looked up the Hebrew word underlying these translations and found:
Hebrew word: ehiydah
A puzzle; conundrum, dark saying (sentence, speech)
hard question, proverb, riddle
And the English definition of puzzle and riddle are as follows:
Merriam Webster Definition of puzzle:
3: to solve with difficulty or ingenuity
puzzle out an answer to a riddle
Merriam Webster Definition of riddle:
1: a mystifying, misleading, or puzzling question posed as a problem to be solved or guessed: conundrum, enigma
So, if you view encryption as a mathematical puzzle to be solved this could very well be stating that the Antichrist will have this ability. Even in the definition of riddle the word enigma is used, which just so happens to be the name of the very first electro-mechanical rotor cipher machines used to encrypt German diplomatic and military communications during WWII.
Why is this so important? If someone has the ability to know all the encrypted communications transmitted electronically; commercially, privately, diplomatically, financially, militarily, etc. throughout the world, it becomes very clear that he will have unlimited information access and therefore ultimate control. If all electronic data is also being uploaded to him through the Beast system (as described in A Chronological Revelation) he rises to the level of omnipotent (within a limited context relative to God). This beast system quite possibly will consist of the Antichrist with a neuro link to an AI quantum computer manifested in physical form as the Image of the Beast, aka the Abomination of Desolation and of course those that receive its mark. This is the ultimate idol, made by human hands, that becomes man’s replacement of God as a super intelligent omniscient being.
With this technological Beast representing the culmination of Man’s (and Satan’s) ideal to dethrone God, it becomes even more apparent that the events described at the 5th Bowl judgement are those of its destruction by God with an electromagnetic pulse produced by a coronal mass ejection from the sun. You have to admire the simplicity and ease at which God destroys this ultimate creation of humanity.
In Daniel 12:9-10, we are told that these things would not be understood until the time of the end:
“He said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end. Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand.”
The prophecies of Daniel, and by extension Revelation, were designed to make sense once the context of their content had arrived, hidden only until the time they spoke of. It appears that time is now.
Please reference my 2030 article to see how this also dovetails with the projected AI singularity with additional prophetic references.
